Growing up in Benettsville, S.C., our household was filled with music from a piano player, an organ player, a trombone player, a clarinet player, a trumpet player, and all of us who loved singing. I remember when my mother took me and my sisters to see the movie, "The Sound of Music." I was 11 years old. My sisters, Pam and Angie were younger. We fell in love with the music in the movie. My mother decided to buy us "The Sound Of Music's" Soundtrack. We wore that album out! We learned every song. To this day, when we are all together, we will still sometimes breakout singing "Sixteen Going On Seventeen," "Do-Re-Mi," "So Long-Farewell," "My Favorite Things", and "Climb Every Mountain." The Sound of Music put us on a straightforward path of falling in love with music and the arts.
After High School in Bennettsville, S.C., I attended Morris College in Sumter, S. C. I joined the Morris College Chorale as an alto singer. I never missed choir rehearsal. We went on tour every year visiting various churches that supported the school. After college, I became even more drenched into loving music. I wrote and copyrighted my first country song, "The Seven Youngster Mother." At that time, listening to and singing music was one of my favorite pastimes. I loved listening to Earth, Wind & Fire, my forever-lasting favorite music group. I've always had an ear for great music.
While living in Athens, GA, I became a lead singer with the "Common People Band," a true icon for great entertainment. We performed in Athens, GA, Saint Simons Island, New Orleans for Mardi Gras and at many other special events.
When my brother, Griffin began composing his music, I was blown away by his beautiful melodies and talent for playing classical music. I knew we had to do something with all those original hit songs, and that's when we joined our minds together and created "The Show Master Stage Troop™" and the musical play, "Hold Me." Griffin's Hit Musical Stage Play premiered in 2000 at the Historic Morton Theater, Athens, Georgia. "Hold Me" featured all orignal songs in various genres from Griffin's song catalogs. We had a sold out-packed house and received several standing ovations.
It is my pleasure and honor to offer the world an opportunity to hear and enjoy great music composed by The Late, Maestro Griffin G. Haygood.
